Session 2 – User Centric Design – Voice of Users

How do you listen and get inputs from the users? Let us explore!

(take a pause). And may I ask you to share your views?

Take 5 minutes and write in the Miro board your views and then let’s have an open discussion for about 25 minutes.

Survey

  • The easiest is to develop a survey form – google or otherwise and send it to potential set of users and get their inputs.
  • In this you may provide choice – based statements or fill in windows. This obviously will be only stated needs and some wishes too.

Interviews

This method is through both structured cue – based questions and open – ended questions, the latter leading to a free flow that makes up a customer verbatim.

Take a widely used app and do a quick interview among yourselves and take notes, you can do with others too related to your app if you have selected or done one.

Observation

Observe how a user actually uses a product or service, when do they use? how do they use? and maybe observe any latent or unstated needs; to get instant feedback, use cameras and voice recorders.

If a set of users are available and can be filmed, capture how do they use the app? when they do? how much time they spend? is there a closure? could be a booking, a purchase, an information or just browse. Remember technology can play a significant role for better user experience.

Focus Group

Present a set of product/ service and get users to share views through focus groups – travellers for travel, stay and local services.

Give the proposed product or service or even a brand name/ tag line and get the group to talk about, record the conversations and emotions to get insights.
